Hello! My name is Caitlin Erwin.
This will be my 12th year teaching in the Troy School District. This year I am excited to be teaching at Schroeder and Morse Elementary Schools.
I grew up in Royal Oak where I discovered my LOVE for art! That led me to get my Bachelors of Science in Art Education from Central Michigan University in 2010. I also received my Masters degree in Art Education in the spring of 2018. I live in Royal Oak with my husband Mitch who is a firefighter, our son Conor, our daughter Riley and our dog Luna. We moved back to Royal Oak when we had the opportunity to buy and renovate my childhood home!
It’s without question that I have a strong passion for the arts! In my free time I love painting, creating digital art, and hand building with clay. I also love to spend time with my family, go camping, work on home renovation projects, read, attend concerts, and take photographs.
I have always felt strongly that art is a vital part of the curriculum, and offers students a chance to strengthen problem solving and critical thinking skills, as well as gain a cultural and historical understanding. In addition, the arts help students to build self-discipline, perseverance, and a good work ethic. The arts also help students build solid connections with other academic areas and integrate learning across the curriculum. My art classroom is an important place where a diverse group of learners can come together to think, discuss, and create. These skills are essential to life long learning!
My goal is to make art a positive experience for every student regardless of their artistic ability. I truly believe “every child is an artist”! My hope is that students will use their creative brains to express themselves. Students can look forward to feeling safe, respected, and cared for when they enter my art room.
If you ever have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact me. Thank you in advance for supporting your child’s art education.
I am looking forward to another exciting and inspirational school year!
