Welcome to Art with Mrs. Erwin!
The mission of the TSD Visual Arts Department is to provide all students with an art education that develops the design skills they will need to be independent critical thinkers, problem solvers, and innovators in the 21st century.
Imagine, Invent, Create!
We don’t just make art, we LIVE art! Art is a vital part of the curriculum, and offers students a chance to strengthen problem solving and critical thinking skills, as well as gain a cultural and historical understanding. The arts also help students to build self-discipline, and perseverance. These skills are essential to lifelong learning!
This year will be filled with thinking, discussing, creating, and fun!
We will spend time observing, describing, questioning, and investigating art images and processes. Over the course of the school year, we will explore various techniques, artists, art history, and materials in art. Through drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture, collage, fibers, and technology, students will be able to express individual ideas, thoughts, and feelings. My goal is to make art a positive experience for every student regardless of their artistic ability. I truly believe “every child is an artist”! My hope is that students will use their creative brains to express themselves. Students can look forward to feeling safe, respected, and cared for when they enter my art room.
If you ever have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact me. Thank you in advance for supporting your child’s art education. I’m looking forward to another exciting and inspiring school year!

Reminder!
Most of our artwork will come home in a portfolio in June, so that I can display artwork throughout the year, and track student progress. If your child is moving please let me know so that I can send home their portfolio early.
Art class can be messy! Please don't send your child to school with a new outfit on the day that he or she has art. I have included the art schedule below so that you can see when your child’s class comes to ART.
